Kappa Delta Presents Check to Freedom Center
December 10, 2010, the members of the Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. met with Kim Robinson, Stephanie Creech, and President Hodge to present the money collected from donations for the astounding Kappa Alpha Psi Inaugural Freedom Walk. The walk was a memorable moment, as was today. We first heard from Kim Robinson and Stephanie Creech as they shared their heartfelt emotions about what the members of the Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi have accomplished for not only the Freedom Center, but the Cincinnati community and Miami University community. It was extremely heart warming as Kim explained how we all got the last push of donations from Donald Spencer's (Late founder of Beta Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi- Univ. of Cincinnati) wife Marian. We are proud to say that we surpassed our goal of $5,000 and raised a total of $7,000! We were all tremendously proud and couldn't be any happier.

Freedom Walk Komplete!
The Men of the Kappa Delta Chapter have completed the 40-mile walk with much success! Go to the Photo Gallery to check out some photos during this significant and historic walk. Read what the Chapter Polemarch had to say: The Freedom Walk was an awesome experience for everyone involved. We all didn't imagine the amount of education, background, and information that we would receive as part of the events held on Friday. The stories and information that was shared by Carl Westmoreland and the others were outstanding and made our weekend very memorable. This experience that we endured was amazing, yet challenging. You really don't know the magnitude of walking 40 miles until you actually do it. We can only appreciate and have the utmost respect for our ancestors as they walked 20 to 30 more times than we did. Reflecting on how we completed the 40 miles and experiencing the hunger and soreness that we felt, put it into perspective about how slaves had to endure all of that without the benefits that we dad. We were able to stop and get something to eat, readjust our shoes, and not have to worry about someone trying to capture us. It is very heart-warming to know that our ancestors endured the treacherous weather and wilderness just so we can have the life that we live today. This venture over the weekend is going to be an experience that will last us a lifetime. -Donovan Potter, Chapter Polemarch
Kappa Delta Freedom Walk
The Kappa Delta Chapter at Miami University will be conducting a Freedom Walk on behalf of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (Freedom Center) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The purpose of the Freedom Walk is to provide financial support and to broaden awareness of the Freedom Center’s mission, which is to promote freedom and the reduction of human suppression around the world. The Freedom Center is an important institution that serves as a reminder of a tragic period in America’s history -- slavery, and the heroes who sacrificed their lives to help others to freedom.
Members of the Kappa Delta Chapter, along with a few alumni, will walk the 40 miles from Cincinnati to Oxford. While the distance of the Freedom Walk presents a challenge, the route of the Freedom Walk will highlight the historical points of interest and the significance of the Underground Railroad. The Freedom Walk will be conducted over two days. The first day will start on Friday, October 15th with a symbolic crossing from Kentucky to Ohio and will move pass historical points of interest and end at a known safe-house in Cincinnati where the brothers will stay overnight. The second day will resume on Saturday, October 16th and traverse the greatest distance of the Freedom Walk and conclude at the campus of Miami University in Oxford.
The brothers of Kappa Delta Chapter are asking for your financial support in making a donation to the Freedom Center. We ask that you donate at least $1 for each mile of the historic trek for a minimum donation of $40; however, we encourage larger donations. Those wishing to make cash donations can mail checks made payable to “Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity” with a designation of Freedom Walk in the memo section to Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, 380 Shriver Center, Miami University, Oxford, OH 45056. A PayPal option is also available using Miami.Kappas@gmail.com. For those wanting to donate directly to the Freedom Center can do so by accessing their website at www.freedomcenter.org. Anyone donating directly, we ask that you reference “Freedom Walk” in the comments section.
Your support of Kappa Delta Chapter and contribution to the Freedom Center is appreciated. Please feel free to contact us at Miami.Kappas@gmail.comor on Facebook at Miami University Kappas.
